As part of the Affect Formations project, a residency at the Durham University Music Department exploring overlaps in music, emotion and art, Adinda van 't Klooster created eight electroacoustic soundscapes designed to evoke particular emotions, using mostly modulations in sound timbre. Although melody and rhythm do surface, they don't hold the dominant place they tend to hold in most popular and classical pieces of music. The eight chosen emotions chosen are happy, sad, angry, tender, calm, excited, annoyed and afraid. The sounds can be listened to on the Affect Formations sister site. These sounds are also used in the Biocombat piece, part of the live performances at the Sage Gateshead and Durham University.
